Consider leaving the car at home on the 5th of each month and trying alternative transport :-)

It's a really simple initiative dreamt up by me, commuter cyclist Gerry McBride. It had to be simple so that I could understand it! :-)

Basically, each month, on the 5th day, I encourage as many people as I can to try an alternative method to the car for getting around. It's called Don't drive on the 5.

The idea is, that if you take the plunge and try cycling for that day, public transport, lift share, run or walk you are helping the environment, saving money and improving your health, and you might like it and so try it again and again.

I would also like to take this 'about' opportunity to thank Peter Riddell from British Cycling for nominating me to carry the Olympic Flame in 2012! Pictured handing it over to Councillor Denise Bunn Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland for display in Kirkleatham Museum, Redcar. Also pictured are Cllr Olwyn Peters and Peter Bunn.

Your first 'don’t drive on the 5' day is the 5th of any month ;-)
